GIRLS INTERMEDIATE GYMNASTICS AGES 6-11

Girls Intermediate Gymnastics  (Bars, Vault, Beam and Tumbling) Ages 6-11

Class Length: 50 Minutes

Your child should be able to do a good cartwheel AND a one-handed cartwheel with good landings and control. Girls should also be able to do a backbend from a stand on their own to be in the intermediate level. They should also be able to do a controlled handstand with a good landing.  If they do not have these skills mastered, please sign them up for the beginning gymnastics class.

Basic Gymnastics skills are learned in this class. Kids will learn how to do each skill properly, with the correct form and technique. Mastery of basic gymnastics elements is crucial to learning more advanced skills. Skills learned in the intermediate gymnastics class include, but are not limited to:

  • Dive Rolls
  • One Hand Cartwheel/dive cartwheels and beginning aerials (cartwheel with no hands)
  • Handstand forward rolls connected
  • Round – Off
  • Back walkover/Front walkover
  • Beginning Back handspring
  • Beginning Front handspring
  • Beginning Bar skills
  •  Front handspring Vaulting
  • Learn Beam skills
  • Dance elements: Leaps / Jumps (tuck, pike, twist, straddle, straight, split)
  • Flexibility and strength training
  • Trampoline Skills/Practice
  • Obstacle Course

When a child can do a back handspring alone without spotting or special mats then they can advance to the advanced gymnastics class.

We recommend taking this class once a week and adding the Intermediate tumbling class as well once a week. They could be back to back classes or on different days. This will help your gymnast get in more practice and progress quicker.  Those that sign up for more than one class per week get a $10 discount for the second class which earns you a free class.
